Frequently asked questions

Why should we use a professional renovation company for our project?

There are others out there who claim to do professional work, but we've cleaned up enough disastrous renovations to know that just because someone says he can do it, doesn't mean he can. Don't find yourself getting a great deal on a project that turns into a complete nightmare.

Do you guys just "sub-out" everything?

We hear this a lot. While we are on-site the vast majority of the time, you'd probably prefer our project manager doesn't try his hand at electrical work. So yes, we use wonderful subcontractors to do the work that they have spent their lives mastering. But this does not mean we are not present, or doing much of the work ourselves.

Can't I save a ton of money by being my own GC (general contractor)?

Possibly, but most people who have tried it, say they would never do it again. It's taken years to develop the relationships we have with our vendors and subcontractors. They work hard to be as accomodating as possible with us because of this long standing, mutually beneficial relationship. The rates given to us might be very different than the rates given to a homeowner, so there might not be a great difference between hiring everyone yourself, and just allowing us to take care of the entire project.

I've been burned by a contractor in the past, why should I trust you?

It's sad that there are so many fly-by-night companies out there that are just looking to collect a check and get out. If we did that, we certainly couldn't operate under the same name for the past ten years, live and work in our community or have the flawless reviews and reputation we enjoy. We also provide contracts that legally bind us to a high standard. These contracts protect the homeowner from any fraudulent practices, or outright negligence.

How do I log into my project management app?

If you've been activated in our system, you can download the buildertrend app from your appropriate app store.

What should I expect my project to cost?

Everyone's budget is different, but a useful rule of thumb is to budget about 10%-20% of the value of your home on a complete, upscale kitchen remodel. Of course, it's easy to spend more, and you can spend less, but this should help give you a rough idea of the entire cost of a kitchen project. Keep in mind, it's possible to recoup 8% or more on the cost of the kitchen when selling your home. Bathrooms can cost anywhere from $5,000 for a simple powder room renovation, to $100,000 for high end finishes, elaborate design and all the bells and whistles. In general, you can expect to spend about $20,000-$50,000 for most master bathrooms.

How long will my project take to complete?

We usually tell clients to contact us as soon as they have the idea that they want to start a project. The reason for this is that it can take a month or two to finalize the design, and most cabinetry and some fixtures can take 6-8 weeks for delivery. Once the project begins it's safe to assume about 5-6 weeks for bathrooms and 5-10 weeks for kitchens. So if you want to get something done before a holiday or special date, make sure you allow enough time to plan, order materials and construction.
